After using for years the Epic Name as a label for tasks in Kanban boards f.ex., this is its de facto meaning, no other, a label in a card to identify the Epic there. If now someone changed that meaning, that is an undesirable change, a bug from this point of view. Now Epic Name has no meaning. From the articles:
How can I automatically change all the tasks' statuses from all the tasks "inside" an Epic based on the Epic's status? Example: if I have 3 tasks with "to do" status, but I decide to put the entire Epic as "On Hold", all those tasks would also move to "On Hold". The trick may be to restore the former statuses when I place the Epic as "In
Make sure you have JIRA admin rights on cloud. First you will need to create your Custom field. Go to "Issues" under your JIRA Administration menu and go to "Custom Fields" under "Fields". mchang Jan 08, 2021. For what it's worth, as of Jan 2021 I found that Jira Cloud will prompt you to include child stories when moving an epic from one project to another. See screenshot below. The result is that the epic and child stories are migrated all into the new project with the parent-child relationships intact.
the custom field epic link is restricted to stories (and probably other issue types) and not visible for any sub-issue type. This is configured by default like this. You could manually override this configuration, but I really cannot recommend. Sub-task are linked to parents and not directly to epics. So long.
